Enable Gauge Test/Needle Sweep (Staging)

For a different welcome, you may enable gauge test/needle sweep (staging) function in dashboard. Actually it is a test of instrument cluster but  drivers like to see needles hit the end and turn back, You can do following adjustments to enable this nice function.

This function does not work for some virtual dashboards. If it does not work, you can turn it off.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL CHANGES AND RESULTS ARE IN USER RESPONSIBILITY! DO IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!

PLEASE BACKUP AS INSTRUCTED BELOW!

You need VCDS, VCP, OBD Eleven or ODIS software and tools to modify codings and adaptations.

The screenshots and instructions shown here are for VCDS tool but you can also easily find same ways with other dignostic tools.

The function is controlled by instrument cluster. So open VCDS and click "Select" button in "Select Control Module" section:

When the modules screen are loaded, select "17 - Instruments":

Select "Coding - 07":

Click "Long Coding Helper". Please copy the "Curent Coding" value and save it in a Txt file as a backup.

Instead of any failure, you can always replace this code to return default settings.

In "Byte 1", enable "Bit 0 - Enable Gauge Test/Needle Sweep (Staging)

To test it, turn off ignition, lock car's doors, wait 3 minutes, unlock car and turn on ignition. You will see the sweeping needles.

Please note it is not supported for some virtual dashboards. If so, you may turn it off and keep default coding.
